How To Fight Entrepreneurs Overwhelm

Overwhelm can creep up on us when we least expect it. We say yes to a few things here and there and before you know it you are over-committed, under resourced and lacking the time to complete everything. So you start feeling stressed and less productive because you are thinking about all the things you should be doing in the future instead of the one thing you are meant to be doing at that moment.

Have you ever felt this way?

Do you feel this way now?

If you work for yourself you will probably have to do a lot to keep your business running. From creating your products, providing your services, accounts, marketing, web design, blogging, writing copy and on and on. You might manage to juggle it all at first but it can easily get out of control.

I’m often asked how I manage to do so much. The truth is I do one thing at a time. If I allowed myself to think too much about all the things I need to do I’d probably panic and I would never get anything done.

It’s important to recognise the signs of overwhelm and to learn how to overcome it when it strikes.

When you start thinking about the long list of tasks you need to get through, you take your focus off the present and into the future. You might start creating to-do lists and action plans to try and organise your thoughts in the hope that you will feel less overwhelmed and more in control. But it won’t work. All the planning is taking you away from doing. No amount of planning will be worth it if you never start the tasks on the list.

So next time you feel overwhelmed, just start. Do one thing and focus fully on it. When that is done, do something else.

Learn how to re-focus on the present. Ask yourself what can you do right now to move your business forward. Then take action on it.

Have you ever felt overwhelmed? How did you overcome it?
